The truth would be hard for him to swallow, but if it came to pass, it wouldn't be the first time he'd change his mind about the difference of human and another species. However, right now, the lie he has somehow built his head around does her move favors. He can't help let her lead him to be or do certain things to her to start with then slowly do them on his own for himself. He goes as far as to let his hands help with the clothes when they come off.
Vanilla stunts are more than enough, but if she wants to give him more of this wild side of hers, he won't bring himself to stop her. Well, he's got a lot to learn. Already this is far from the movies or dreams he's had the perfect girl, only better. Yesterday, the grin on her face would have embarrassed him, but right now, he sees it differently-- it looks like she is into it, or something, and he chooses to believe she got the message. It's just Sam. It's the first time he's had a girl suck on his neck, and he can't say he hates it, with Ruby it feels like magic and he keeps his head there, until she pulls away and he is drawn to follow her with his gaze. He blinks, the reason being why she bites her lip.
"That doesn't always wo--" He starts to protest, but she is convincing and confident enough in what she does that the facts just float away. Her lips are notably soft against his skin, but his shirt starts to feel like a bundled up scarf by the time it reaches his armpits...it's a dilemma which he chooses to respond to only after her lips have had time to linger. At some point, he helps her hands by pulling off his shirt.
When he wakes up after the coitus, it's because something in his hair stirs him awake. Snakes? No. The wider awake he gets, the more he can remember he hasn't been to a summer camp in years. Motel roaches are not that big either. At some point he's gotten used to one or two crawling on him. Flashback images of last night start to come back--the hands over skin, clothes tossed to the floor, etc. It's no time at all that he remembers he came into Ruby's room and everything that followed. He turns on his side to blink into his sights one Ruby reading something with a dramatized and scandalous cover. "Good morning," he opens with, opting to give a sleepy smile her way.
Good. She's all about building his confidence and teaching him to trust his instincts. She thinks both of those things will help later in his life. She's also learned that he can't take memories with him from Itinere, but he does take emotions and feelings. That's enough.
Do hickies still count as vanilla? Or wearing high heels and nothing else? Honestly, that's probably as wild as she'll get with him. Well, she's into him so he's not totally wrong. He'll have a hicky (or two) on his neck tomorrow to remind him of that magic.
Actually, she doesn't know the statistics of birth control, nor does she care. She is glad that he lets it go and focuses on the moment. It's a big moment and she's going to make sure it's memorable. Tomorrow night he'll get candles and flowers. She wasn't really prepared for tonight, but she's not going to complain.
Just Ruby's fingers and she'd hope it's a lot more enjoyable than snakes or roaches. Everything Ruby reads has a dramatic, scandalous cover. It's her favorite kind of book. When he says good morning, her lips curve into a smug sort of smile as she sets aside the book on the nightstand and leans over to press a kiss to his temple. "Morning, Puppy," she whispers, sliding down into the bed a little to snuggle up next to him.
Feelings will always stay with him for sure. How else can you explain why he can't remember the girl who he gave his virginity to? It has nothing to do with the last time he was at soccer camp and being hit by the ball or believing for so long that is why he couldn't place the girl's name anymore. When it clicks that it was Ruby all along, he'll have the same feeling as he has when they're done.
Hickies do if that's all there is to it, but she's being slightly aggressive in making her mark on him that, yeah, it's hard to call it vanilla. Should we even discuss how red heels and nothing else is like something out of his wildest dreams? Honestly, that would do it. He's twisted right around her finger as the feeling is mutual. Most likely there won't be a shirt able to cover the hickies nor will he think of any reason to cover them. Dean taught him sex is nothing to be assumed of by example.
Neither does he, beyond what educators say. Though nothing sounds like it works when educators back abstinence. Well, one thing going for them at least is that he can trust that Ruby would knows it works or not. Anything else is beside the point. It's memorable because it's with her. He's crushed on her since he was twelve. Flowers and candles missing aren't what make the night or in this case don't, what makes it is Ruby. In all honesty, he wasn't prepared either.
Which is why he won't tell her what he was thinking her fingers were initially. Why sour the mood? Now that he can see it's just her, nothing about her fingers suggest anything other than a loving gesture if not in a way a nice head massage. He can't say her book choices are something he'd read, but he also can't say he isn't the least bit curious about what she's reading. The kiss to his temple is good and all, yet he smiles in part only she's spoiled him last night. Where was the real kiss? He puzzles over it for a minute before softly pecking her lips, first. "Sam," he reminds her, but is more than a sucker to puff up his chest or to turn more towards her. "How long were you up?"
It really isn't explainable any other way. Ruby will be happy to know she makes such a lasting impression on him even when he really can't remember details of her.
Well, she is slightly aggressive about the idea of leaving her mark on him. She does enjoy being part of Sam's wildest dreams. Ruby isn't thinking that far; it'll occur to her later that he might want to cover the hickies up in front of his parents. Right now, part of the point is to make sure they're visible. There's very little that Ruby is ashamed of. Sex with Sam certainly isn't one of those few things. Yeah, it might things easier for them both, but in the long run, she refuses to hide their relationship.
The sex education system is stupid. Though, Ruby doesn't know that. She does know how repressed humans were in her time though. It's a bit embarrassing that they haven't made much progress. Ruby isn't telling the whole truth about her ability to get pregnant, but it's not something he needs to know right now. All he needs to know is that he doesn't need to worry about it. He's got such good answers to situations like that. She hopes that he feels the same way when he's Her Sam.
It's meant as a loving gesture anyway. Oh, he'll come to like her book choices at least in some regard. He's free to thumb through the books in the bookshelf. He'll find passages highlighted and pages dog-earred for his benefit. In response to the way he corrects her addressing of him, she kisses him on the mouth again, a little fuller than his kiss. "Not long," she assures him, sliding down underneath the covers and tangling her arms and legs up with his.
She should know the effect she has on him by now since it's not too different than the one she has on Her Sam, but there's something that can bee said about finding out together.
Of course he wouldn't want parents to see them as he can't predict how either of them they will react. Mary most of all. John would be a little to guess if he were currently able to use a brain cell. At the same time, that's neither here or now. Sam never fell for the impression that feeling good having sex is letting in the dark side, but like the dark side, what she does to him builds in him and fills him with an energy he needs to release.
If there's anything he could remotely answer if she asked, he can only guess that she remotely makes him feel the same way because she is a very special lady.
Sorry, his brain cells are slower in the AM, just ask anybody that knows him. Valentines is right around the corner and he may surprise her with a book cover. However, her book choices have helped get him in the mood to try new things before. She'll find that it won't be hard to catch him flipping through some of the dog-eared pages if left to his own devices for a while. He can't expect that she would kiss him for something as simple as how he corrects her, but neither can he think of a reason why she shouldn't. He casts a glance to the door, thinking maybe this is where he asks her to breakfast next. But the second she tangles herself up next to him the thought falls away.
"Okay." He breathes in then out, letting any inclination to get up sink into the mattress. A minute later he wraps his arms around to have her closer. He isn't sure whose heartbeat he hears but the rhythm gets steadily louder.
Oh, she has a very good idea, but she likes to see the evidence of her effect on him anyway.
Ruby is guessing that neither of Sam's parents will react well, but they've had this fight before and she doesn't think anyone else wants to have it again. He's eighteen and no one wants to ruin his visit here. Ruby could tell the American sex education system that cloaking anything in mystery and forbidding it makes it all the more appealing, but no one will listen. Besides, she's certain that just like the dark side, people are afraid of sex because it's a form of power. Sam is so much smarter than Anakin (yes, the boys have made Ruby watch those movies).
She knows and she likes morning!Sam. His perusing of her bookshelves won't raise any eyebrows or teasing from her and he'll most likely be left to his own devices occasionally. She likes to take long baths and trips to the bookstore not to mention picking up fries at the diner. She'll let him look then ask if he's found anything he likes. They can discuss his findings at length. She knows how he likes to study.
She's actually kissing him to shut him up rather than as a reward for correcting her, but he'll figure that out as he gets older. Ruby is accustomed to a morning routine that involves making it a good morning before they have breakfast. She'd be very upset if that inclination hadn't fled with that first kiss. Oh, it's his heartbeat, but he doesn't have to know that. They'll get to breakfast eventually.
It's not soon enough for Dean though. As far as timing goes, Dean's isn't bad, but Sam is still breathless and goofy when Ruby first hears Dean yell "Sammy! Breakfast!" She groans and pushes herself out of bed, grabbing Sam's shirt from the floor and tossing it on just in time for Dean to burst in
"Ruby! Have you---" Dean stops, eyes going to Sam naked in her (their) bed. His gaze goes to Ruby standing defiant with her arms crossed over her chest. He looks back to Sam. "Breakfast is getting cold. Get dressed and come eat," he says, his voice quieter than it was a few minutes ago.
She doesn't have to do much to have an effect on him at all.
It wouldn't be his first guess that either of them would react well, but it goes without saying that he can't imagine they would know how to respond. At least a little bit it would be embarrassing on his part too. Unwittingly, right now Ruby is taking the place of the American sex education manual. If there was a universal standard, her's would be the Gold standard...or Ancient Greek standard. Today, Sam is a man. Star Wars is only the best movie there is. Even Sam thinks so. He wouldn't tell just anyone, but Ruby isn't just anyone, and he told once her how he rooted for Anakin to find his way. Darth Vader did in the end. What isn't a bad thing is that the sex could go to his head a bit. (Copyright: I just had coitus. 2001.)
If she knows that, then she knows that he likes waking up next to her too. But this time is like the first time all over again. Except it's without any of the frustration with himself and all of the room in his heart to admit it was the best thing he ever did to read her note. Sam can't say he is used to being left to his own devices, much less in a room belonging to a girl, but should she leave him alone there, when being the more apt occurrence, it is only a matter of time before he does read something meant for a version of him. They may be in for the longest-shortest conversation.
Well, sometimes he can't stop talking. She's a really good kisser so her method of using it to shut him up goes unnoticed. He's learning the routine right now and breakfast is the furthermost thing from his mind. If last night taught him anything, it's that one kiss leads into another and Ruby likes it if he gives after she takes. He'd never have the intention to make her upset. If not for that one little pesky detail, he'd be right about being certain it was her heartbeat in his ear. They could skip breakfast for all he cares.
Dean who? While goofy and breathless, his attention is so glued to Ruby that the call for the breakfast seems almost puzzling and not to fully register until Dean barges in. He scrambles for more of the blanket to cover up parts previously half covered.
"Dean! What do you-- Breakfast could've waited." The exchange between Dean and Ruby strikes him as a little odd, but it only goes partially noticed as Sam's embarrassment grows by the second. His hands twist the blanket. He looks off to the side (the shower) before figuring out how to compromise. "At least give minutes." He'll need to jump in and out and comb his hair at least.
At least they've got the experience of coping with them as a couple when he's older. Ruby will provide him a much better education in that department (and in a few others, like history). For instance, Ruby would tell him that it takes a lot more than sex to make him a man and he already was one. Much to everyone else's dismay, Ruby will encourage that confidence in him.
It's just one more thing to make this trip memorable.
Oh, she knows. How does he think she developed her tried and true method of shutting him up. He's learning his lessons well. One of them has to eat and he needs his energy.
Sam, Dean has seen all of that, but he appreciates that Sam tries. Sam ought to know by now that there's always more going on in exchanges between Dean and Ruby than the obvious. That's particularly true when Sam is younger. Dean gives Ruby a hard look and Ruby responds with a slight tilt of her chin then Dean looks back to Sam. "Five minutes. Pancakes are on the table," he tells Sam then looks to Ruby. "There's extra bacon, but it won't last with Mom and Dad there."
If Sam does decide he can take a shower in five minutes, he'll emerge to find Ruby wearing jeans and her own tee shirt. "There are clean clothes in the closet. They'll be a little big, but they'll work."
Mary knows a little something of what it is like to have parents that
disapprove or otherwise hesitant to comment on the relationship. She would
be somewhere between there because it's not new. Sam would take a lesson
such as that to heart as it means something of his character. He would also
be tickled to know Ruby thinks of him like that. His confidence can only
continue to grow because she gives him something he's never had. That is to
say that she's the last piece of a puzzle, or a friend, a girl crush, and a
relationship outside of his closed off norm to shape his confidence to
building a meaningful idea of his future.
Hopefully the same goes for her. He'd like to be as memorable as he can
only assume she finds his older person.
Well, he can't help but think that she does it as a way of showing him her
feelings in a physical sense at any age. Perhaps she's got more of an
effect on him than he realizes because it was and will be a while before he
catches on again. At least he isn't blind to how she looks out for him at
meal time most of the time. His stomach isn't rumbling yet so five minutes
should be fine.
Neither one of them needs to see or have all of it out there, and Sam
continues to get some clothes on. His shirt isnt readily accessible on Ruby
so he slides to the edge of the bed to face the challenge of getting his
underwear then pants on while keeping covered by the blanket. It isn't
always clear why they exchange looks like they do, but he can read how they
look like they're in some contest. He looks between them then clears his
throat. "Five minutes. Save some for me," he confirms, particularly
insists. Unlike the Sam he will be in a few years, fresh from the pan bacon
is a treat he will indulge in. He wishes he could have more time with Ruby,
but he looks like he wants to run in and jump out of the shower just
standing around talking.
It's not quite a full five minutes when he comes out of the shower, but
Ruby in her own clothes stops him. His hands fall from the towel around his
shoulders. His stare only moves to look at the closet a moment after she
pointed it out. "Hu- uh, yeah. It won't be weird to wear them, right?" He
looks down at his legs and wiggles his toes, thinking particularly about
the pant length.
He's memorable for Ruby at any age. Though, he will notice she takes a lot of pictures and videos of him. He'll also notice that there are actual framed pictures of the two of them together around the bedroom as well.
He's not wrong about that either. Ruby isn't great at expressing her emotions so she relies on her actions to do that for her. It's one of the reasons why she touches him so much and always has.
Little does Sam know that it is a contest and he's the prize, in a manner of speaking. Ruby knows by Dean's look that he's not happy she chose this path with Sam and Ruby has let Dean know that she doesn't care if he's happy or not, nor is she going to apologize. Dean nods at Sam's confirmation of five minutes, looking away from Ruby to his (baby) brother. "I'll guard it as long as I can," he says as he heads out of the room.
Once Dean is gone, Ruby grabs a pair of jeans and pulls them on. In deference to the Winchester sensibilities, she dons her own tee-shirt; there's no sense in rubbing in everyone's faces what they've been up to. She's just finished running her hands through her hair when Sam gets out of the shower. She smiles softly at him and shakes her head. "No. They're yours anyway." The pants will be long. There's nothing they can do about that. He can probably grab a pair of track pants that will look a little less awkward than jeans though, or some sweatpants.
It's hard to notice anything when she is in the same room as him. Perhaps
later the photographs of the two of them will finally come into view and he
can see how happy they are. It always creates mixed feelings to see himself
older and happier with her because it creates some inner conflict.
Anyway, her actions are what makes him want to stay with her now and that's
what matters in the moment. He's better at expressing his emotions and
she's teaching him how to express them physically.
He just had the best night of his life so all he can guess is there is an
issue there. At the same time, it's not been brought up and Sam can breathe
a certain amount without feeling more embarrassed then he already does. He
hasn't any reason to think Dean would a big issue with it either. Sam nods
then motions to indicate he'll get in the shower rather than use any more
words to communicate with Dean.
There's many ways that he could describe her but beautiful is the one that
sticks. She could wear anything (or nothing at all) and never look better.
Her smile brings his more confident one to flash for her. Little does she
know her hair looks like it glistens under the room light as if they were
really under the sun. Her smile also shakes him a little back into reality.
Her permission still feels necessary despite what she says. The approval
means much. "Well, I mean. I have to ask." Maybe she could grasp on to it
after he tells her it in this way because in a sense his clothes feel like
they belong to her as much as they do to him. He will come to that same
conclusion and change into the single pair of track pants on the end. He'll
extend his hand to Ruby after he changes when they go to breakfast.
It’s the reason she tries to keep reminders of an older him low key, but
she doesn’t avoid it either. She thinks it’s important to remind him that
no matter what is still ahead for him, happiness is also ahead.
They work well together, like two puzzle pieces. His strengths compliment
her weaknesses and vices versa. He teaches her to express her emotions
verbally so it’s only right she teach him the physical side of that.
Just imagine how the rest of his life with her is going to go if this was
the best night of his life. Everyone will come around. Dean and Ruby are
often at odds, but they work it out because they both love Sam.
Her hair is a little bit magicked, though she won’t tell. Ruby watches him,
his body language as well as his looks, and sees all the little ways he is
very much the man she loves. More than anything, it’s his eyes and the way
he looks at her, but it’s also in the way he stands and moves, the way he
stumbles just a little because he’s watching her instead of where he’s
going.
When he phrased it that way, she does kind of get it. “Okay, but what’s
mine is yours. Unless we’re talking fries then you’d better ask,” she jokes
with him. Her smile grows bigger when he extends his hand to her and she
takes it, twining her fingers with his. She’s pleased he’s not going to
skulk into the kitchen like he’s ashamed.
When they walk into the kitchen together, conversation grinds to a halt.
John looks like that vein in his head is going to burst, but he doesn’t say
anything. Dean breaks the silence. “Dude, I am not protecting your bacon
any longer.” He nudges the plate a little. It’s sitting in front of Sam’s
usual place at the table.
There are eggs, biscuits and gravy to go with the bacon.
She's sweeter than she leads herself to believe in that case. Ever since he
was a boy, all he's ever wanted is family and happiness in the future.
That's the best way to look at it. As a matter of fact, it's why they work
for each other because they will always make up for the flaws of the other
and add strength to each other like the individual strands that form rope
and make it strong. Despite appearances, it's always a plus that she gets
long with Dean and accepts the nontraditional way he needs Dean in his
life. Of course, Sam loves them both under very equal but different
measures.
Her magicked hair certainly shows in how it impresses upon his opinion. Sam
should learn by now that he can't focus, or very well walk a foot, when he
has his eyes on her, but does it stop him, of course not. He stumbles and
hops a little bit while trying to get his foot into one pant leg because he
can see her eyes on him the whole time. He can't guess it amuses her per se
that it's because he was watching her first. He turns red when his eyes
fall back to her. She'lll never not make it difficult to have coordination
and balance with her on the brain.
He arches his brow at her, catching the joke but knowing how serious she is
about fries. "Don't worry, I'll get my own," he smiles, a huff of laughter
behind a very Sammy smile. He has no reason to be ashamed of her. As a
matter of fact, it feels like the right thing to do after Dean has seen
them to introduce Ruby to his parents. Again. His palm is humanly sweaty
though.
Not the reaction he was expecting. He would prefer if the conversation
didn't die down, but since it does, it gives him the opportunity to read
the room. He'd have said something like good morning to shift the focus if
Dean didn't offer the save. "Well, I'm here, aren't I." His hold on Ruby's
hand only loosens somewhat so he does not yank it when he sits the spot
reserved for him. It really does not occur to him it's where he usually
sits. What does is that he's seated with family and how special it is.
Yeah, there's about to be less eggs, biscuit, and gravy. He opts to take a
biscuit first, but in doing so, extends the plate over to Ruby.
Oh, Ruby was well award even before she introduced herself to Sam of the
co-dependent relationship he has with Dean and she wouldn’t dream of trying
to change it. That’s part of what makes Sam Sam.
Honestly, even though it embarrasses him, Ruby loves that he can’t focus
when she’s in the same room. She hope that never changes regardless of his
age. She’s not much better to be honest.
Introductions are hard. She never knows for sure how they’ll go. Maybe
ashamed is the wrong word. She does know that some discretion would
probably be the smart move, but it would also be impossible for them. They
don’t know how long he’ll be here, but if he wants to stay, they might as
well put their relationship out in open right now.
He can still say good morning. John does after a bit of a delay, but Dean
is trying to make things as easy as possible. Ruby takes a biscuit from the
plate, steals a piece of bacon and done jam to put on her biscuit then
proceeds to make a little jam and bacon biscuit sandwich. The table is
quiet a moment before John speaks.
“So what’s the plan for today? Anything you want to do, Boys?” But really,
he’s asking Sam.
Is it really just with Sam though? She makes an effort not to argue with
Dean all the time... and that's just what he gathered a minute ago.
Traditionally, not a lot of girls would want to see it that way, much less
accept it. Of course that's why and how they work. Ruby has her own
place in his heart.
There is a strong possibility he will talking to her over Angel radio one
day and still be unable to focus due to the sound of her voice. He does
feel a sense of relief when he catches that it's not only him.
What they think is important to him though. Ever since he was old enough to
start dreaming about a girlfriend, he pictured the moment he would
introduce her. This moment. It's actually seems like it's going better than
he'd except, then again he can't read the room with the elephant still in
the closet.
In that case, he'll throw the good morning back because it most certainly
is. Ruby taking the biscuit feels him with a sense of accomplishment. Her
stealing a piece of bacon doesn't get the same reaction it might have if it
were Dean, but a short gaze is given to it longingly before he let's it
slide. He is getting used to her stealing food bit by bit. When John
speaks, it's a force of habit to listen, think on what he is asking for a
second.
Far as he knows, they didn't have anything special planned, but Itinere has
a lot to offer, especially with them together like this.
Um.
"I can think of a few places I wanna see--that abandoned lab. Or, there's
the Surf Hologram VR exhibit." Should that really surprise anybody.
She does make an effort with Dean, Mary, and John for Sam's sake, but she doesn't think she could really be called sweet to them.
Traditionally, she's not like most girls for lots of reasons. That's just one.
Oh, Sam. She hopes so, but she prefers to avoid thinking about a life without seeing Sam every single day. However, should it come to that, she'll take what she can get.
Ruby knows that, which is why she makes an effort with everyone in his family. A lot of the time, it just means keeping quiet, which she is actually able to do. No one wants to take that moment away from him. Itinere is all about giving him (all of them really) things that they never had. It's a very big elephant to be fair and Ruby isn't sure that acknowledging that elephant will make the room any easier. John's eyes light on the hickey on Sam's neck, which confirms everything that they can already guess at; a very big elephant indeed.
Fortunately for Sam, Dean made plenty of bacon and Ruby could have grabbed a piece off the platter in the center of the table, but for her, stealing food off Sam's plate is almost a way to show affection.
They don't have anything planned, at least not as far as Dean knows. While the days here have a loose sort of structure for Dean and in some ways for John, there's nothing set in stone. John told himself that when an eighteen-year-old Sammy showed up here, he was going to take the chance to do some things they hadn't gotten to do back home. In spite of the aforementioned elephant, John is trying to keep that promise to himself (and to Mary).
John frowns a little then nods. "I don't' see why we can't go do that stuff." He looks to Dean. "Far you as know, anyone going to come down on us for looking into the lab?"
Dean shakes his head. "Nah. A few people tried to get a police station started around here for a while, but they disappeared and there's not usually much need for it."
Sam has rose colored glasses on when it comes to Ruby. Now, and in the
future.
He can't help but see her untraditional behavior as positives.
She's part of their family now so she shouldn't feel she is taking away
from their time just by speaking. In either case, most of the time he
catches Ruby being quiet and puts the brakes being a nerd to check in with
her. Letting the elephant out wouldn't make it easier, but it would be
telling the truth and giving him a chance to come to terms with it.
There's a lot he has yet to learn to understand of her, but the affection
is understood as soon he sees the satisfaction on her face.
Cool! The lab is at the top of his list of things to do, and better yet he
heard no reason why it might be dangerous. Of course he may want to touch
some of the equipment when they get there. Somebody ought to make sure he
doesn't freeze ray his hand or an entire wall. In the same spirit, Sam has
it in mind to spend as much time with John seeing how he isn't on a hunting
trip. Mary and Ruby, too, because it will be years into his future before
meeting them. Mary can see how John is trying to keep his promise, and like
wise she is trying too. At the same time, Sam made a grown up choice and it
is acknowledged.
Sam holds his excitement back for a moment while John and Dean figure it
out, then holds it no longer. It might as well be if they told him they
were going to Disneyland when he was eight. "When can we go?" Obviously,
any time after breakfast is the fair assumption, but everybody has to get
ready and be willing to go.
He turns his head to Dean. As little as it matters in Itinere, it still
seems strange to him that there is no police station at all. Though,
there's comfort in how the Winchesters take care of themselves. And it
gives him one more idea to add to the list. "Did they set anything up that
we can see?" He used to talk about it on the occasion, but being a police
offer was one of the things he considered being when he grew up.
She's part of their family, but everyone is still working on really accepting her in the family. She can keep the tension from boiling over by keeping quiet when it's not important to be heard. She appreciates that he checks on her. She winks at him to assure him she's fine. He will get the chance to come to terms with what she is. For now, Ruby is basking in his affection and adoration.
He's beginning to understand her then.
With any luck, the four other Winchesters going on the field trip will be able to keep him from freezing anything important. With all of them determined to spend quality time together, maybe John and Sam can avoid fighting.
As long as he doesn't throw the tantrum he threw when he found out they couldn't go to Disneyland. Dean looks to John when Sam asks when they can go. John frowns a moment, considering it, glancing to Mary before he speaks. "Let's finish breakfast, let me have a second cup of a coffee and we'll head out."
It's strange to Ruby as well. There is no real authority in this place and it does make the town different from any other town she's ever visited. "There's a police station we can stop by and look at. Old three-story building with a couple of cells in the basement."
Every single time he's come to Itinere, he's learned a little more about Ruby to understand her. Telling him what she is only would be the last piece to making it all finally click into place. He would would likely surprise her again by how his affection would allow him to come to terms with it. As for right now, her little wink is like critical hit from the move charm! Sam's cheeks grow a little rosy and ability to look at her is lost for a moment.
It seems like his luck is better when the four- nah five of them are around. (Refer back to the night he just had. Being a family and doing regular things seems to be working as the medicine they've needed to stop the fighting typical of them.
In his defense, he was nine. It was a pretty big deal then...where as now he live with one or two of the suggestions he came up with being off the table. His true aim is to think they can do together. Sam casts his attention between Dean and John. Mary shares the glance with John, not objecting if he decides in favor of it. "I'm not going anywhere until I finish my plate," she shares. Especially when the bacon is still on the table. She continues with a bite of a crispy piece of bacon.
Self-policing might be the strangest aspect of Itinere. Thankfully, it's nothing new for a Winchester. There's always been order to their dysfunction. Sam wears a thoughtful face as he considers where he should land. "Then it's settled. We can start with whatever's closest."
He would definitely surprise her. To be fair to Her Sam, he didn't know her as well when she'd told him about being a demon, but he hadn't handled it well. Of course, it helps this Sam that Dean and John won't be adding to any freaking out he might do. It would be a welcome surprise that would make her fall a little more in love with him.
It certainly helps that everyone is around the table. It also helps that both Dean and John are interested in making this a good visit.
Melt-down, Sam. Melt. Down. John is glad to have Mary's support in this because he wants her to go along with them. John nods in agreement. He wouldn't dream of separating Mary from her bacon. "We've got a timeline then."
It is pretty strange. For the most part, it seems to work. Of course, giving everyone every material thing they could want certain weeds out some of the motivations for crime. "Police station," Dean offers. "The lab is a little further out on the other side of town.."
Once breakfast is finished and Dean rinses and stacks dishes to be done when they get back. "I think we can all pile in the Impala," John says. The kids (Ruby included this time) in the back with John and Mary up front. Besides, it's something else they never really got to do: take a family drive in the family car.
When the truth comes out, of course it will help to have his father and brother not freak out. He would already need the time to sort out how to feel about her and resolve it.
Sammy is interested in making this a good visit too. If anything, he might already be subconsciously trying to get everyone to see what he is into. Ruby and Mary especially.
Okay. So he melted down. That day was all snot and wailing and nothing but the candy Dean eventually snuck him calmed him down. Of course Mary is going with them. She wouldn't miss this chance to be with her family for the world. Mary's gaze falls back on John, body language giving off a general agreement.
True enough. Maybe, the people of Itinere are inherently good too. Sam was hoping the police station would be the closest! If not for how they agreed to finish dinner, he would jump out of his seat now, rearing to go.
They've never had a drive in the family car, had they. It doesn't sink in until Sam stands up to take his plate and collect Ruby's to bring to the sink. Its then that it sinks really in and his gut starts to feel bubbly. "I call the middle seat in the back." Because he never gets the front passenger seat (yet) anyway. "I was kinda hoping it'd the opposite," he muses about the distance between the two spots, a small pout on his lower lip.
After breakfast, he'll file in the backseat after offering Ruby the spot to slide in first. The center is his preferred spot because he can see what's going on up front; see John, see Mary, and see the sights before they fly right by. It doesn't take long to reach the police station. He nearly trips over himself with limb over the threshold when clambering out.
"This is... It? It's.. I think I already got goosebumps," Sam opens, honest about what is on his mind first after gazing on the building. True enough, the station has been left to the elements for some time, with dusty windows, unshoveled snow and an overall look helping it seem almost grungy but untouched, in a more positive light. "We should see what's still in there." He marches on.
She'll give him the time by going to stay at the apartment until he's ready to cope.
It does help Ruby get to know this version of Sam and to see how he grew into the Sam she knows as well as she knows herself. It probably helps Mary get to know the teenager that she never knew as well, and that's nice. They'll have to invite Carmen to something so that Sammy can meet her as well. Dean knows his baby brother is probably interested in meeting her and Carmen is slowly becoming more and more a part of their lives.
Thankfully for Sammy's sake, that meltdown hasn't come up in front of Ruby. Candy was always a good way to get him to calm down when he was a kid.
The people of Itinere are inherently good for the most part. They're also a bit unimaginative, which works in everyone's favor.
"Yeah, well we don't get to pick the layout of the town, Shrimp," Dean quips to Sam and ruffles his hair as they all head toward the garage. Ruby stops to grab her high heeled boots on the way then meets them down there, slipping into the back seat after Sam. It's probably a good thing Sam is in the middle between Ruby and Dean.
The police station has been deserted for a while which does make it look a little creepy. The front door is unlocked. Inside, Sam will find a normal enough building. There is the police chief's office and a couple of desks and chairs in the main room. The upstairs is mostly storage for extra chairs and desks, boxes of paperwork (mostly from Haven which tells Dean the boxes were up there before the station was ever imagined here). Downstairs are the two cells, and a weapons vault, which Dean happens to have the key to. He sort of treats it like an alternate stash of weapons in case they're needed.
Ruby wanders around the main room, opening drawers, heels clicking on the floor. She hasn't ventured in here before because there was really no need to. Police stations aren't on her list of places to hang out so this is all new to her. John views everything with a more critical and analyzing eye. It's a solid building and it'd make a good place to hole up and defend themselves if they needed to leave the bunker for any reason.
"It's not as secure as I would have imagined," Ruby says.
He'd come find her when he was ready to talk. It'd be very likely it'd take a day or two before he'd start feeling her absence and want to (need to) talk to her.
The same thing goes for Ruby. Sam is still connecting some dots but it seems to him she's always been the girl of (in) his dreams. He still has a ways to grow, but everything here in Itinere has a subtle effect in shaping who he is. Mary absolutely enjoys being able to see what one son was like as a teenager. In fact, she can see younger Sam has a sweet tooth. She wouldn't have known that because he's careful in his twenties. Sam wouldn't mind if Carmen was called and invited now. To be fair, he's always wanted to, but never, had the chance to see what his big brother's girlfriend was like.
To bring up how his meltdowns go, it would turn his ten shades of red. Ruby doesn't need to know any of that. Save maybe his affinity for candy. He'd be fine with her knowing if not for the many ways it could be used to get her some.
"Don't call me that," he insists but in a hushed tone so Ruby might not hear it. He uses his fingers to comb the strands Dean messed with, but half of them still sticks out. As far as he can see, the middle has the perfect vantage point to see everyone. He's ecstatic to have it.
It does seem creepy, but at the same time the abandoned air around makes it more inviting that a regular police station with activity going in and out of it. Sam let's himself take it in before he nods to whom ever passes him first to head in. Inside, the chief's office draws his eye first. Perhaps it's because it's the nicest chair lies inside, or perhaps it's the first place that gives off a sense of importance and purpose. Sam chooses this room first, hand spreading out the files that remain on the desk to see what was left unfinished. His interest in criminal history eventually shifts his attention to the cabinets that remain unlocked in the idle curiosity that he might find a file of a criminal living among them. (Sorry, Sam. There's none to be found.)
Mary stays close to John, but looks more closely as the weapons for the taking. Opposite to her husband, her preference for the bunker clouds the potential she sees in the police station should any reason require them to leave their home. When Sam finally finishes skimming the files, he is able to make his way back to the group by following the sound of Ruby's heels.
He stops right next to her. "I guess they had no time to lock up." It's somewhat obvious here that Sam feels a sense of dread because whom ever was running the station was sent home before they were ready to go and he can't know if he will too.
Having him show up will make up for the days he wasn't there.
She's known him nearly his entire life. Ruby and Dean have seen that first hand thought it'd taken a little while to realize it. It's part of why Dean worries about Sammy's relationship with Ruby. He knows that it's going to shape Sam and he wonders if that's part of the reason Sam didn't find a normal girl. Of course, that leads to Dean feeling guilty that he didn't force Ruby to stay at her apartment when Sammy was here.
Ruby already knows about Sammy's affinity for candy. Candy will be a regular thing as long as he's here.
Dean chuckles a little at Sam's protests. Yeah, the vantage point is good, but you end up squished between two people. He's happy to have one of the doors. Ruby is a little more awkward simply because she's still figuring out her place in the family and she's aware that this relationship with Sam at his various ages isn't something everyone is going to understand. Right now, she's grateful that no one is trying to keep her from Sam.
There weren't any real criminals in Itinere to keep files about. However, if Sam digs through the boxes of files from Haven, he'll find some weird things: curses and people with powers, things more like what Sam is used to.
That's why Dean keeps a key to them. He wants to be careful about who gets their hands on the weapons. The bunker is a much better option and safer to boot than this place, but John does think it's defensible. Ruby is very noticeable when she's not trying to fly under the radar. Right now, she's trying to stay out of the way, but not to hide.
She's a couple of inches taller than him with her heels. Almost instinctively, she shifts her weight so she's a little closer to him. She reaches out and hooks her fingers in Sam's belt loop. "Or maybe there wasn't a reason to," Ruby suggests. She doesn't like dwelling on the idea of people leaving when they don't want to leave or before they're ready. It means she can lose Sam at any time. "Itinere isn't exactly teeming with criminal activity and it doesn't look like anyone has trashed the place."
Sammy is nothing but stubborn at times, but also willing to admit his mistakes at others.
He's been influenced by her his entire life, that's no secret. But not all of it has been dubious in nature. Sam learned he wanted to go to college from her, have a normal life, a normal family among the positive things that could be said about his meeting her in influential, yet trustworthy faces when he was still growing up. The dreams her image left on his subconscious wouldn't have changed his growing pains much. He likes blondes and even Dean could never change that fact. He would figure out where Ruby's apartment was anyway or bump into her somehow. Dean needn't feel guilty as it hasn't affected their history back home too much.
He's not in the habit of sharing, but if the chocolate is from her more often than not, it's fate, not fact, that he'll end up sharing half the bar with her. Candy would pull out his sweeter side like if Valentine's Day were that day and every day after.
Sam ought to ignore Dean, but it matters to him if Ruby hears it. His gaze shifts to Ruby back to Dean to assess if she did or not and shoot a look to demand he stop. Truth is, Sam can deal with Ruby pressed up against his side so close and Dean when his feet aren't hogging the entire backseat (or the cause to consider jumping out of the moving vehicle). He'd consider Ruby his new girlfriend at this point and that makes her his family. No one saying otherwise should mean she belongs as much as any of them.
He does notice the boxes and moves them on top of the chief's desk with the intention of coming back to them. Depending on when he does, he will either have the time to figure out what the curses could be or more knowledge to understand them on his own. He's not done with it just yet, only looking to follow up about what else everyone has found.
If Sam had some input, he'd agree with Dean and some the other opinions. He would surmise the police station would be the first place anybody would look for weapons so the best place would not be here. The best place would probably be loading them in the back of their other vehicles. It also would be fair to consider handing them out to anyone that wanted one on a case by case scenario. Though, nobody is untrustworthy enough to not qualify. The station would be a good place to hole up though. Maybe that means Sammy is more in tune with her because he found her quickly enough.
He's seen the pictures of them together to know it won't matter forever. Besides the inches in difference to where their lips could almost meet sparks the thought to kiss her right then. He is certainly encouraged to when she hooks her fingers in his belt, bringing his hips to shift closer to her pull. He's not sure why he doesn't. The opportunity seems to be somewhat amiss with his thoughts piling up and decision to stand on his toes to touch foreheads with her. "Why wouldn't they lock this place up?" Sam blinks back at Ruby's suggestion. If anything, he isn't dwelling on the idea he could be gone tomorrow anymore. Why anybody would leave the police open to just anyone to take is a more burning question. Of course Sammy has a healthy degree of understanding to know a place like this can't just fall in any person's hands. "What I mean is that shouldn't somebody with experience run this place... If it was at all necessary."

Date: 2020-01-31 10:54 pm (UTC)Vanilla stunts are more than enough, but if she wants to give him more of this wild side of hers, he won't bring himself to stop her.

Date: 2020-02-01 05:03 am (UTC)Do hickies still count as vanilla?

Date: 2020-02-01 11:41 am (UTC)Hickies do if that's all there is to it, but she's being slightly aggressive in making her mark on him that, yeah, it's hard to call it vanilla.

Date: 2020-02-04 12:55 am (UTC)Well, she is slightly aggressive about the idea of leaving her mark on him.

Date: 2020-02-04 10:52 pm (UTC)Of course he wouldn't want parents to see them as he can't predict how either of them they will react.

Date: 2020-02-05 02:05 am (UTC)Ruby is guessing that neither of Sam's parents will react well, but they've had this fight before and she doesn't think anyone else wants to have it again.

Date: 2020-02-05 10:19 am (UTC)It wouldn't be his first guess that either of them would react well, but it goes without saying that he can't imagine they would know how to respond.

Date: 2020-02-06 01:17 am (UTC)It's just one more thing to make this trip memorable.

Date: 2020-02-06 02:16 am (UTC)Mary knows a little something of what it is like to have parents that disapprove or otherwise hesitant to comment on the relationship. She would be somewhere between there because it's not new. Sam would take a lesson such as that to heart as it means something of his character. He would also be tickled to know Ruby thinks of him like that. His confidence can only continue to grow because she gives him something he's never had. That is to say that she's the last piece of a puzzle, or a friend, a girl crush, and a relationship outside of his closed off norm to shape his confidence to building a meaningful idea of his future.
Hopefully the same goes for her. He'd like to be as memorable as he can only assume she finds his older person.
Well, he can't help but think that she does it as a way of showing him her feelings in a physical sense at any age. Perhaps she's got more of an effect on him than he realizes because it was and will be a while before he catches on again. At least he isn't blind to how she looks out for him at meal time most of the time. His stomach isn't rumbling yet so five minutes should be fine.
Neither one of them needs to see or have all of it out there, and Sam continues to get some clothes on. His shirt isnt readily accessible on Ruby so he slides to the edge of the bed to face the challenge of getting his underwear then pants on while keeping covered by the blanket. It isn't always clear why they exchange looks like they do, but he can read how they look like they're in some contest. He looks between them then clears his throat. "Five minutes. Save some for me," he confirms, particularly insists. Unlike the Sam he will be in a few years, fresh from the pan bacon is a treat he will indulge in. He wishes he could have more time with Ruby, but he looks like he wants to run in and jump out of the shower just standing around talking.
It's not quite a full five minutes when he comes out of the shower, but Ruby in her own clothes stops him. His hands fall from the towel around his shoulders. His stare only moves to look at the closet a moment after she pointed it out. "Hu- uh, yeah. It won't be weird to wear them, right?" He looks down at his legs and wiggles his toes, thinking particularly about the pant length.

Date: 2020-02-07 01:23 am (UTC)He's not wrong about that either.

Date: 2020-02-07 03:20 am (UTC)It's hard to notice anything when she is in the same room as him. Perhaps later the photographs of the two of them will finally come into view and he can see how happy they are. It always creates mixed feelings to see himself older and happier with her because it creates some inner conflict.
Anyway, her actions are what makes him want to stay with her now and that's what matters in the moment. He's better at expressing his emotions and she's teaching him how to express them physically.
He just had the best night of his life so all he can guess is there is an issue there. At the same time, it's not been brought up and Sam can breathe a certain amount without feeling more embarrassed then he already does. He hasn't any reason to think Dean would a big issue with it either. Sam nods then motions to indicate he'll get in the shower rather than use any more words to communicate with Dean.
There's many ways that he could describe her but beautiful is the one that sticks. She could wear anything (or nothing at all) and never look better. Her smile brings his more confident one to flash for her. Little does she know her hair looks like it glistens under the room light as if they were really under the sun. Her smile also shakes him a little back into reality. Her permission still feels necessary despite what she says. The approval means much. "Well, I mean. I have to ask." Maybe she could grasp on to it after he tells her it in this way because in a sense his clothes feel like they belong to her as much as they do to him. He will come to that same conclusion and change into the single pair of track pants on the end. He'll extend his hand to Ruby after he changes when they go to breakfast.
(Please let there still be bacon.)

Date: 2020-02-07 03:59 am (UTC)It’s the reason she tries to keep reminders of an older him low key, but she doesn’t avoid it either. She thinks it’s important to remind him that no matter what is still ahead for him, happiness is also ahead.
They work well together, like two puzzle pieces. His strengths compliment her weaknesses and vices versa. He teaches her to express her emotions verbally so it’s only right she teach him the physical side of that.
Just imagine how the rest of his life with her is going to go if this was the best night of his life. Everyone will come around. Dean and Ruby are often at odds, but they work it out because they both love Sam.
Her hair is a little bit magicked, though she won’t tell. Ruby watches him, his body language as well as his looks, and sees all the little ways he is very much the man she loves. More than anything, it’s his eyes and the way he looks at her, but it’s also in the way he stands and moves, the way he stumbles just a little because he’s watching her instead of where he’s going.
When he phrased it that way, she does kind of get it. “Okay, but what’s mine is yours. Unless we’re talking fries then you’d better ask,” she jokes with him. Her smile grows bigger when he extends his hand to her and she takes it, twining her fingers with his. She’s pleased he’s not going to skulk into the kitchen like he’s ashamed.
When they walk into the kitchen together, conversation grinds to a halt. John looks like that vein in his head is going to burst, but he doesn’t say anything. Dean breaks the silence. “Dude, I am not protecting your bacon any longer.” He nudges the plate a little. It’s sitting in front of Sam’s usual place at the table.
There are eggs, biscuits and gravy to go with the bacon.

Date: 2020-02-07 04:56 am (UTC)She's sweeter than she leads herself to believe in that case. Ever since he was a boy, all he's ever wanted is family and happiness in the future.
That's the best way to look at it. As a matter of fact, it's why they work for each other because they will always make up for the flaws of the other and add strength to each other like the individual strands that form rope and make it strong. Despite appearances, it's always a plus that she gets long with Dean and accepts the nontraditional way he needs Dean in his life. Of course, Sam loves them both under very equal but different measures.
Her magicked hair certainly shows in how it impresses upon his opinion. Sam should learn by now that he can't focus, or very well walk a foot, when he has his eyes on her, but does it stop him, of course not. He stumbles and hops a little bit while trying to get his foot into one pant leg because he can see her eyes on him the whole time. He can't guess it amuses her per se that it's because he was watching her first. He turns red when his eyes fall back to her. She'lll never not make it difficult to have coordination and balance with her on the brain.
He arches his brow at her, catching the joke but knowing how serious she is about fries. "Don't worry, I'll get my own," he smiles, a huff of laughter behind a very Sammy smile. He has no reason to be ashamed of her. As a matter of fact, it feels like the right thing to do after Dean has seen them to introduce Ruby to his parents. Again. His palm is humanly sweaty though.
Not the reaction he was expecting. He would prefer if the conversation didn't die down, but since it does, it gives him the opportunity to read the room. He'd have said something like good morning to shift the focus if Dean didn't offer the save. "Well, I'm here, aren't I." His hold on Ruby's hand only loosens somewhat so he does not yank it when he sits the spot reserved for him. It really does not occur to him it's where he usually sits. What does is that he's seated with family and how special it is.
Yeah, there's about to be less eggs, biscuit, and gravy. He opts to take a biscuit first, but in doing so, extends the plate over to Ruby.

Date: 2020-02-07 06:51 pm (UTC)She’s only sweet to Sam. Mostly.
Oh, Ruby was well award even before she introduced herself to Sam of the co-dependent relationship he has with Dean and she wouldn’t dream of trying to change it. That’s part of what makes Sam Sam.
Honestly, even though it embarrasses him, Ruby loves that he can’t focus when she’s in the same room. She hope that never changes regardless of his age. She’s not much better to be honest.
Introductions are hard. She never knows for sure how they’ll go. Maybe ashamed is the wrong word. She does know that some discretion would probably be the smart move, but it would also be impossible for them. They don’t know how long he’ll be here, but if he wants to stay, they might as well put their relationship out in open right now.
He can still say good morning. John does after a bit of a delay, but Dean is trying to make things as easy as possible. Ruby takes a biscuit from the plate, steals a piece of bacon and done jam to put on her biscuit then proceeds to make a little jam and bacon biscuit sandwich. The table is quiet a moment before John speaks.
“So what’s the plan for today? Anything you want to do, Boys?” But really, he’s asking Sam.
no subject
Date: 2020-02-08 11:08 am (UTC)Is it really just with Sam though? She makes an effort not to argue with Dean all the time... and that's just what he gathered a minute ago.
Traditionally, not a lot of girls would want to see it that way, much less accept it. Of course that's why and how they work. Ruby has her own place in his heart.
There is a strong possibility he will talking to her over Angel radio one day and still be unable to focus due to the sound of her voice. He does feel a sense of relief when he catches that it's not only him.
What they think is important to him though. Ever since he was old enough to start dreaming about a girlfriend, he pictured the moment he would introduce her. This moment. It's actually seems like it's going better than he'd except, then again he can't read the room with the elephant still in the closet.
In that case, he'll throw the good morning back because it most certainly is. Ruby taking the biscuit feels him with a sense of accomplishment. Her stealing a piece of bacon doesn't get the same reaction it might have if it were Dean, but a short gaze is given to it longingly before he let's it slide. He is getting used to her stealing food bit by bit. When John speaks, it's a force of habit to listen, think on what he is asking for a second.
Far as he knows, they didn't have anything special planned, but Itinere has a lot to offer, especially with them together like this.
Um.
"I can think of a few places I wanna see--that abandoned lab. Or, there's the Surf Hologram VR exhibit." Should that really surprise anybody.
no subject
Date: 2020-02-09 08:30 pm (UTC)Traditionally, she's not like most girls for lots of reasons.
"Nah. A few people tried to get a police station started around here for a while, but they disappeared and there's not usually much need for it."
no subject
Date: 2020-02-11 01:38 am (UTC)Sam has rose colored glasses on when it comes to Ruby. Now, and in the future.
He can't help but see her untraditional behavior as positives.
She's part of their family now so she shouldn't feel she is taking away from their time just by speaking. In either case, most of the time he catches Ruby being quiet and puts the brakes being a nerd to check in with her. Letting the elephant out wouldn't make it easier, but it would be telling the truth and giving him a chance to come to terms with it.
There's a lot he has yet to learn to understand of her, but the affection is understood as soon he sees the satisfaction on her face.
Cool! The lab is at the top of his list of things to do, and better yet he heard no reason why it might be dangerous. Of course he may want to touch some of the equipment when they get there. Somebody ought to make sure he doesn't freeze ray his hand or an entire wall. In the same spirit, Sam has it in mind to spend as much time with John seeing how he isn't on a hunting trip. Mary and Ruby, too, because it will be years into his future before meeting them. Mary can see how John is trying to keep his promise, and like wise she is trying too. At the same time, Sam made a grown up choice and it is acknowledged.
Sam holds his excitement back for a moment while John and Dean figure it out, then holds it no longer. It might as well be if they told him they were going to Disneyland when he was eight. "When can we go?" Obviously, any time after breakfast is the fair assumption, but everybody has to get ready and be willing to go.
He turns his head to Dean. As little as it matters in Itinere, it still seems strange to him that there is no police station at all. Though, there's comfort in how the Winchesters take care of themselves. And it gives him one more idea to add to the list. "Did they set anything up that we can see?" He used to talk about it on the occasion, but being a police offer was one of the things he considered being when he grew up.
no subject
Date: 2020-02-11 02:28 am (UTC)He's beginning to understand her then.
Old three-story building with a couple of cells in the basement."
no subject
Date: 2020-02-14 04:26 am (UTC)It seems like his luck is better when the four- nah five of them are around.
We can start with whatever's closest."
no subject
Date: 2020-02-15 08:40 pm (UTC)It certainly helps that everyone is around the table.
Besides, it's something else they never really got to do: take a family drive in the family car.
no subject
Date: 2020-02-16 03:35 am (UTC)Sammy is interested in making this a good visit too.

Date: 2020-02-16 09:32 pm (UTC)It does help Ruby get to know this version of Sam and to see how he grew into the Sam she knows as well as she knows herself.

Date: 2020-02-17 02:08 am (UTC)The same thing goes for Ruby.

Date: 2020-02-17 03:01 am (UTC)She's known him nearly his entire life.
"Itinere isn't exactly teeming with criminal activity and it doesn't look like anyone has trashed the place."
no subject
Date: 2020-02-17 04:47 am (UTC)He's been influenced by her his entire life, that's no secret.
